Lebanon County
is only a short drive east from Harrisburg. Lebanon County has a population of
almost 120,000 and combines the quaintness of the past with the excitement of
today. It is a treasure trove of historical attractions, beautiful scenery and
cozy colonial communities. Old-fashioned hospitality, time honored customs, and
a relaxed way of life are reminiscent of years gone by. Nature lovers can enjoy
camping, hiking, canoeing, fishing, hunting, horseback riding and mountain
hiking.
Lebanon is world famous for its mouthwatering
Lebanon Bologna. German descendants first brought their recipes to the
Lebanon Valley in the early 1800's. Today nearly all Lebanon Bologna is
produced right here in Lebanon County and each year they celebrate with the
Lebanon Bologna Fest.
The Cornwall Furnace was a major part of the community from 1742 to 1883. This
industrial plantation produced cannon shot and shells for the Revolutionary War
along with pig iron and domestic products. Cornwall Furnace is now operated by
the Pennsylvania Historical and Museum Commission. Visitors can take an
educational tour to see how the furnace operated in the nineteenth century.
